FAT VILLAGE ART WALK
- Gallery hop and see works by local artists
- Sample food truck fare and cocktails
- Score an untraditional and unique vacation keepsake
Located in the Flagler Village of Fort Lauderdale, FAT Village is a collection of artisans and galleries that are not to be missed. The last Saturday of each month, FAT Village hosts a family-friendly, celebratory Art Walk, bringing the local community together with the “Villagers” who specialize in the arts. This monthly festival offers food trucks, performances and what they call the “unexpected.” Not in town the last weekend of the month? No problem. Head to the area and start with a colada at Colada, our go-to Cuban coffee house and eatery in the area. Fuel up and make your way through street art and galleries including The Projects Contemporary Art Space and Box Contemporary Gallery, or take in a show at Andrews Living Arts. Cap off the afternoon or night with a craft beer at Laser Wolf, rated Ft. Lauderdale’s top specialty beer bar, only a short uber ride from FAT Village.
A DAY AT SHIPWRECK PARK
- Explore an underwater park system with rotating art
- Help preserve and conserve our natural coral reef system
- Discover 16 existing ship wrecks covered with marine life
Head north to Pompano Beach and dive for a cause at Shipwreck Park for the day. A not-for-profit organization dedicated to the creation of an underwater park system establishing artificial reefs, Shipwreck Park brings nature and art together. Explore The Newton Creek, a 324-foot tanker vessel that is an artificial reef off the shore of Pompano Beach and is a centerpiece sitting amongst 16 other existing wrecks on display for exploration. This unique dive experience features underwater events (did someone say underwater poker?) and art exhibits with works by local artist Dennis MacDonald. With 50% of the world’s reefs dying in the past 30 years, Shipwreck Park is dedicated to developing and protecting reefs and you can help preserve the underwater ecosystem.
TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD LIME
- Find the real Florida through an everglades airboat tour
- Hit the walking trails with a trained naturalist
- Visit a remote, historic Miccosukee Indian village
Take a walk on the “Wild Lime” to find the real Florida and embark on a half-day adventure to explore the Everglades’ wetland and hardwood hammock ecosystems. Not sure what either of those are? Perfect. A trained naturalist will be your guide for the day, starting from the time you are picked up at the hotel, and will fill you in on the vast and diverse ecosystems that make up South Florida, including trees, plant life and wildlife. Yes, alligators included! Get an up, close and personal look of the natural surroundings and habit through two different walks through the Everglades National Park before hopping aboard an airboat to explore the real heart of the area. A stop at a historic Miccosukee Indian Village on a remote tree island is also on the docket and is only accessible by airboat. This year-round adventure also includes complimentary hotel pick up and drop off, binoculars, SPF, snacks and more.
